Random Thoughts

Friends, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Life, as usual, conspires to keep me from writing as often as I would like. So here are a few thoughts of mine in no particular order.

First and foremost – BUILD THE DAMN WALL ALREADY!!  I’ve seen enough reports from crimes committed by illegal immigrants upon the American population.  Sanctuary cities do nothing but sheild criminals and increase crime (including robbery, rape, and murder).  Anyone who thinks otherwise is complicit in these crimes.

The Muller investigation needs to stop, or at least be redirected toward the truly guilty parties. After a year plus of investigation, no collusion has been found concerning the Trump campaign. But there has been a boatload on the Democrat’s side of the house. And besides, is collusion really a crime, or is it a made up one? Or has this really been a show of political Kabuki theater to smear President Trump? I think we know the answer to that…

The American People do want justice, not the current “get Trump” atmosphere. We will not have confidence in our government until the true criminals and traitors to this country are brought to court. The list that I have is way too long for this post.

The all inclusive Liberals want you to believe that all opinions and viewpoints are welcome, at least if they somewhat agree to the Liberal viewpoint. Stating a Conservative viewpoint has lead to ostracization and even violence. We’ve seen many videos and reports of Liberal intolerance. One of these days, someone will get killed, and then all hell will break loose.

I think of Antifa, and what these masked people are doing. While they state they are anti-Fascist, they certainly employ the same violent tactics as the Nazi Brownshirts or Mussolini’s Blackshirts. What they are doing is in direct opposition of changing this country through the legal channels of debate and elections. Again, one of these days, someone will be killed directly through their actions, and I do wonder if this organization will be held accountable for their actions. I certainly hope that mayors and police chiefs around the country crack down and arrest these people for assault and property damage with fines & jail terms before they get completely out of hand.

The rise of the Socialists in the Democrat Party is of concern to me. Socialism is the direct opposite of the principles that this country is founded upon. It will destroy this country if not stopped. What the Democrats are doing is completely insane.

I was listening to a radio show on my way home from work the other day, and the commentator asked the question, “Why are young, college-age people embracing Socialism? Don’t they know what it is?”

A college counselor called in to the show, with her class present, and asked the question of her class. The answer was stunning and disturbing

The reason that they gave was that Socialism sounded a lot like Social, or Society, and they have been taught that we all need to be more social and respectful of each other. That a movement or system of government would be more encompassing (by name only) instead of the harsher sounding Capitalism (where everyone supposedly screws over everyone else) is very appealing. They didn’t know the details of what Socialism was, but the concept of free education, free health care, and guaranteed jobs (income) was very high on their list. Of course, they had no idea how all the “free” stuff was going to be paid for…

This is what our public education system is turning out. Young adults who have no idea of the history & evolution of the different political systems are, and what the consequences of adopting these systems will eventually result in. Critical thinking and civics has been canned in favor of touchy/feeling crap. No wonder those who can afford it will send their kids to private schools instead of the Liberal Youth Indoctrination Centers that our schools have become.

One last thing on the subject of Socialism before moving on: It seems that most of the people supporting Socialism are thinking that they will be running it, or benefiting from it without much effort on their part. I haven’t heard a single person stating that they would be happy to work for the benefit of others (a la Boxer from “Animal Farm”).

With the midterm elections coming up, I’m looking at the current candidates for the offices at the local, state, and federal positions. I’m what you can describe as a single issue voter. My main issue that I look for in a politician is if they truly support the Second Amendment. Here’s why:

If a politician supports the Second Amendment, they normally support the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and a government run by Constitutional principles. They will also have a respect for life (pro-life), legal immigration, and the rule of law. By respecting and supporting the Second Amendment, it provides a foundation on what that politician’s value system is, and is an indicator if he/she will represent the voters in government, or himself. At least that’s my thinking…

That’s all for this post. May everyone be safe and well until the next time.

Plumbing Karma

Unabashedly borrowed from Conservative Tribune.

Only weeks after leaving office on Jan. 20, 2017, former President Barack Obama discovers a leak under his sink, so he calls Troy the Plumber to come out and fix it.

Troy drives to Obama’s new house, which is located in a very exclusive, gated community near Chicago where all the residents have a net income of way more than $250,000 per year.

Troy arrives and takes his tools into the house. He is led to the guest bathroom that contains the leaky pipe under the sink. Troy assesses the problem and tells Obama that it’s an easy repair that will take less than 10 minutes. Obama asks Troy how much it will cost. Troy checks his rate chart and says, “$9,500.”

“What?! $9,500?!” Obama asks, stunned, “But you said it’s an easy repair. Michelle will whip me if I pay a plumber that much!”

Troy says, “Yes, but what I do is charge those who make more than $250,000 per year a much higher amount so I can fix the plumbing of poorer people for free. This has always been my philosophy. As a matter of fact, I lobbied the Democrat Congress, who passed this philosophy into law. Now all plumbers must do business this way. It’s known as the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act of 2014’. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it.”

In spite of that, Obama tells Troy there’s no way he’s paying that much for a small plumbing repair, so Troy leaves. Obama spends the next hour flipping through the phone book calling for another plumber, but he finds that all other plumbing businesses in the area have gone out of business. Not wanting to pay Troy’s price, Obama does nothing and the leak goes un-repaired for several more days. A week later the leak is so bad Obama has had to put a bucket under the sink.

Michelle is not happy as she has Oprah and guests arriving the next morning. The bucket fills up quickly and has to be emptied every hour, and there’s a risk the room will flood, so Obama calls Troy and pleads with him to return.

Troy goes back to Obama’s house, looks at the leaky pipe, checks his new rate chart and says, “Let’s see, this will now cost you $21,000.”

Obama quickly fires back, “What? A few days ago you told me it would cost $9,500!”

Troy explains, “Well, because of the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act,’ a lot of wealthier people are learning how to maintain and take care of their own plumbing, so there are fewer payers in the plumbing exchanges. As a result, the price I have to charge wealthy people like you keeps rising. Not only that, but for some reason the demand for plumbing work by those who get it for free has skyrocketed! There’s a long waiting list of those who need repairs, but the amount we get doesn’t cover our costs, especially paperwork and record-keeping. This unfortunately has put a lot of my fellow plumbers out of business, they’re not being replaced, and nobody is going into the plumbing business because they know they can’t make any money at it. I’m hurting too, all thanks to greedy rich people like you who won’t pay their ‘fair share’. On the other hand, why didn’t you buy plumbing insurance last December? If you had bought plumbing insurance available under the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act,’ all this would have been covered by your policy.”

“You mean I wouldn’t have to pay anything to have you fix my plumbing problem?” asks Obama.

“Well, not exactly,” replies Troy. “You would have had to buy the insurance before the deadline, which has passed now. And, because you’re rich, you would have had to pay $34,000 in premiums, which would have given you a ‘silver’ plan, and then, since this would have been your first repair, you would have to pay up to the $21,000 deductible, and anything over that would have a $7,500 co-pay, and then there’s the mandatory maintenance program, which is covered up to 17.5%, so there are some costs involved. Nothing is for free.”

“WHAT?!” exclaims Obama. “Why so much for a puny sink leak?!”

With a bland look, Troy replies, “Well, paperwork, mostly, like I said. And the internal cost of the program itself. You don’t think a program of this complexity and scope can run itself, do you? Besides, there are millions of folks with lower incomes than you, even many in the ‘middle class’, who qualify for subsidies that people like you must support. That’s why they call it the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act’! Only people who don’t make much money can afford it. If you want affordable plumbing, you’ll have to give away most of what you have accumulated and cut your and Michelle’s income by about 90%. Then you can qualify to get your ‘Fair Share’ instead of giving it.”

“But who would pass a crazy act like the ‘Affordable Plumbing Act’?!” exclaims the exasperated Obama.

After a sigh, Troy replies, “Congress… because they didn’t read it.”

Obamacare is working just like the fictional “Affordable Plumbing Act.”  This is also how Socialism works, which does its damnest to redistribute wealth.  Last, think of the progressive tax system that is in place in this country – especially since tax season is just around the corner!!

Wouldn’t it be nice if the people passing the laws were affected by those same laws?

Unicorns and Rainbows – Part 4

The typical Progressive Liberal confuses me, and quite frankly, I think they are confused as well.  What they say and do are so contradictory to a rational line of thinking leaves me with multiple WTH moments.

This is the fourth and last installment of the series.

The typical Progressive Liberal politician always states their support for the Constitution and the laws of the United States…that is, as long as it is convenient and can be used to fulfill their personal and political agendas.  When the Constitution and the laws of the United States interfere with those same political and personal agendas, then those documents are now “out of date” and are duly ignored.

The same can be said of the Progressive Liberal defense of a person’s personal liberty to live life according to your belief system within the law.  That is true if you are a minority, non-Christian, gay or trans-whatever, on Welfare, or an illegal immigrant.  Otherwise, your treated as crap in the Progressive Liberal world.

The rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are constantly being challenged by the Progressive Liberals in both Congress and Supreme Courts, and being stripped by Executive Order from the President with nary a whimper from the People.  Indeed, there are some that cheer when a right has been infringed for “the public good.”

What has happened to this country?  Has all common sense and decency been cast aside for the political correctness insanity that seems to have invaded every nook and cranny of our lives?

Let’s first take the case of a high-level government employee, accountable to the President of the United States, willingly violated the laws and policies of the office by using an email address hosted on a private server of questionable security instead of the high-security email server provided by the government.  The evolving story of why this person used the private server is ludicrous at best, and is absolutely criminal no matter what excuse is being made – the office demands absolute accountability and high security in all communications.

Next, take the case of the Executive Mandate by the President to not enforce the immigration laws of the United States.  Quite frankly, the immigration laws are not broken except by those people who violate them – it is the enforcement of those laws which is broken.  From the bottom to the top, these laws are being ignored or are being subverted by the various authorities who vowed to uphold them.  If the political will were exerted to enforce the laws from deportation to employment compliance, this issues would be a moot point.

Gay marriage was ruled by the Supreme Court to be legal in all fifty states.  In my opinion, the Federal Government via the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction in this matter as marriage is not a Federal matter per the Tenth Amendment:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

In other words, it is up to the States to define marriage, not the Federal Government.  The Court and Federal Government have overstepped their bounds.

This past week’s story of a mentally ill, homosexual, racist, black man killing two of his former white co-workers focused on the gun and what could be done to stop gun violence.  Quite unlike the white, young racist who killed several church parishioners and their pastor in Charleston, where the focus was on not only the gun, but being white, the display of the Confederate battle flag, and his racism.  The Progressive Liberal agenda is telling when these two cases are compared side by side, and it just doesn’t make sense unless it is realized that the Progressive Liberal is more concerned about their agenda than the people that agenda affects.

really

The Progressive Liberal agenda is unrepentant in their opposition to the private ownership of firearms.  If possible, they would use any and all excuse and reason to disarm the People of the United States to “make us safe” when in actuality, the reverse would be true.  People would then be defenseless against the criminals that would surely prey upon them (look at the statistics in Australia and Great Britain for assaults, robberies, and rapes since their gun bans, and they are truly chilling).

However, the Progressive Liberal agenda is in favor of guns being in the hands of the government, which is surprising since the Progressive Liberals decry the use of the lethal police force sometimes used when enforcing laws or when police are protecting themselves or civilians.  But wait, that’s only when used against a “protected class” of people…

This double-standard has been placed front and center over the past several years, leading to the latest in what I would call a racist group – Black Lives Matter – which has been calling for an all-out war against whites and police in social media.  This is nothing new – there have always been groups promoting one race over the other for years – some of them violent, other not.  But what about the thought that if any group or organization that promotes one group of people over another because of heritage or color or skin is racist, then there are a whole lot of groups that would fit into this category.  Consider the following:

.facebook_1436287229439            reverse racism

The Progressive Liberal does not want to hear dissent over their seemingly contradictory rhetoric even though they state that they are open minded.  Indeed, personal attacks and public shaming with a smattering of lawsuits follow challenges over their failed arguments in light of facts and other opinions.

“Liberals claim to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover there are other views.” – William F. Buckley

Quite frankly, I’m offended that the Progressive Liberal politician makes the presumptions that they know better how to run my life better than I do, that their opinion trumps mine, and that I’m an entitled person because I work hard & as a result, reasonably successful.  Considering that the majority of the Progressive Liberal politicians haven’t worked a day in their life without sucking up taxpayer dollars for their pay tells me that they haven’t the foggiest idea of what real life is all about.

I am also offended that the Progressive Liberal does not call themselves for what they really are:  They are a rebranded Socialist that have only done so to make themselves palatable to the People of the United States.  The President’s mentor teaches this:

I leave you with these final thoughts for this series of posts:

The Liberal Progressive promote that their way is the best way, the way that will benefit everyone, a path to endless prosperity for all.  We will all live in peace and security under their benevolent, selfless leadership.  All will be as a fantasyland, full of unicorns leaping over rainbows, a virtual heaven on Earth.

Such are the thoughts of dreamers and philosophers who are disconnected from reality, and the self-delusions of the power-hungry.  All that leads down this path is destruction and misery.

The United States of America is unique in history, founded by revolution, providing a system of government that placed power to the people of that country instead of an all-powerful royalty or government.  However, this system is being subverted by powerful politicians and people behind the scenes that only see paths to power.  It is not only the Liberal Progressives that are responsible, but members of both political parties with their backers.  But it is the Liberal Progressives that are leading the charge.

Hope & Change, Fundamentally Transform, Spread the Wealth, and other catch phrases only serve to capture the public’s imagination to move forward to something better, blinding the public that there is nothing wrong with what we already have should our politicians quit acting like hammers looking for nails to pound.  Why must there be change when the change is worse?

The consequences of the changes wrought by the current President’s Administration and the Congressional sessions during his first term are beginning to be felt by many.  None of the people who voted for legislation detrimental to this country will ever be held personally accountable except by being voted out of office.

We the People must take an intense interest in the people that we elect to office and the political process that is used to elect them.  They must constantly be reminded that they work the People that elected them, not their political party.  We the People have an obligation to review the actions of our elected representatives.  Remember –

The Unknown Thanksgiving Story

I have heard of this story for several years, and thought this would be an appropriate time to post about it.  From the isi forum:

What modern history texts also omit is that the contract the Pilgrims brokered with their merchant-sponsors in London specified that everything they produce go into a common store, with each member entitled to one common share. In addition, all the land they cleared and the structures they built belonged to the community.

William Bradford, Governor of the new colony, realized the futility of collectivism and abandoned the practice. Instead, Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family and permitted them to market their own crops and other products, thereby unleashing the power of free enterprise. What Bradford had wisely realized was that these industrious people had no reason to work any harder than anyone else without the motivation of personal incentive.

Thus, what can only be called the Pilgrims’ attempt at socialism ended like all other attempts at socialism — in failure. What Bradford subsequently wrote about the experiment should be in every American history textbook. The lesson provided therein is invaluable.

"The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God. For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For the young men, that were most able and fit for labour and service, did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without any recompense."

And what happened after collectivism was replaced by capitalism and the concept of private property?

"This had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could use, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better content."

The Pilgrims soon found they had more food than they could eat, so they set up trading posts and exchanged goods with the Indians. The profits they realized allowed them to pay off their debts to the merchants in London. The success and prosperity of the original Plymouth settlement attracted more European settlers, setting off what came to be known as the "Great Puritan Migration."

Considering that in this year our government is seeking to provide health care reform and to put all of us (the politicians, of course, will be excluded) in the same common pool, I thought that this story is worth telling.  This is nothing but a man-made disaster waiting for us and our children.  If not, then I will be extremely surprised since this would be the first government run social program that works without fail.

But everyone, really, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Was That A Bump or a Pothole?

Yesterday evening, the Supreme Court cleared the sale of Chrysler to Fiat over the objections of the three Indiana secured bondholders.  From SCOTUSblog.com:

Insisting that it was denying a postponement “in this case alone,” the two-page order said the challengers had not met their burden of showing that a delay was justified.  The reference to this case alone perhaps was a signal that the Court did not want its order to appear to give advance clearance for any other government rescue plan — such as that to save another auto company, General Motors.

The order allows a closing of the deal by no later than next Monday, because it lifts a temporary stay that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had issued on Monday; she did so, apparently, only to give the Court time to ponder the issue.

Presumably, the closing could occur before next Monday, since that was the “end date” only in the Chrysler agreement.

The Court said nothing about the biggest issue lurking in the case: the legality of using federal “bailout” money to pay for the rescue of an auto manufacturer.  In fact, the order stressed that “a denial of a stay is not a decision on the merits of the underlying legal issues.”

Actually, a second but no less important issue (at least in my mind) is the legality of the Federal Government (specifically, the Executive Branch) to flout bankruptcy law to place unsecured creditors interests before secured creditors.  The Supreme Court did not address this concern at all in its decision.  But I’m not surprised…

If you remember, the Supreme Court ruled in 2005 that the Government could acquire property via eminent domain and sell that property to another individual if that action would be in the public good.  While this could be considered a “stretch” of that decision, the sale of Chrysler could be considered in the public good since the company would not be liquidated, thereby saving the livelihoods of thousands of workers and preserving the tax-base of many communities.

Caught in this mess are still the 789 Chrysler dealers that are being closed down (also devastating many communities) and the bondholders like the Indiana group that were forced to accept pennies on the dollar for their $Billions in secured investments.

Quite frankly, if I was an investor, this decision would send a chill down my spine.  This means that any secured investment is not secured, and that the terms of the note could be ignored.

Yeah, it really is all about money…but should it?

What is disturbing to many (including the few readers of this blog) is that our government is now in the business of business more than ever.  Make no mistake, is always has been, but now it is more blatant than ever.  It used to confine itself to regulations, rules, & tariffs to try & keep consumers from being injured and otherwise harming the environment unnecessarily.  Now government is making sweeping changes including deciding ownership of companies and how they are run from within the companies themselves.

We, as a nation, must decide if this is the role that we want our government to take.  If so, then we are no better than the old USSR, Venezuela, Cuba, and a host of other Socialistic countries.  And look where their economies are.  And that is cause for alarm.
