Food for Thought
The purpose of the Constitution is to limit what the Government can do to the People, not what the People can do to the Government.
You make a conservative mad by telling them a lie.
You make a progressive mad by telling them the truth.

As I suffered through one of the worst colds that I’ve had for a couple of years this past weekend, I watched a few of the highlights of the March for Our Lives that took place in various cities this past weekend. Supposedly organized by the students from Parkland (we’ll get to that later), they protested, carried signs, and made speeches to restrict a Civil Right that Americans have had before this country was founded.
Yes, these students, thrust into the spotlight and funded by various anti-gun groups, used their 1st Amendment rights to protest the 2nd Amendment rights of all Americans.
Alinsky would be proud.
I fully believe that the Bloomberg funded anti-gun groups were just waiting in the wings for another tragedy committed by an unhinged murderer to spring this massive protest across this nation. Funding was in place, the plan was made, and the waiting was over. You and I know that there is no way that today’s high-school students could single-handedly organize and execute such a massive protest without the deep pockets of established anti-gun groups. If I’m wrong, then I would like proof.
But even then, what were they protesting? Many of the marchers were ignorant of what existing laws are on the books, and what they wanted to have changed. Which made for some interesting footage such as:
- When asked what the definition of an assault rifle was, one protester expressed incredulity at the question and accused the questioner as being stupid even though she couldn’t define the term (if we’re going to go and ban something, let’s agree on the terminology).
- A protester carried around a sign stated that it was harder to get the poster board for the sign than getting an assault rifle (sorry that the line was long, but you don’t have to fill out paperwork and a background check to buy poster board).
- Another protester carried a sign stating that her uterus was regulated more than firearms (I’ll let you decide on the level of WTH of that statement).
The highlights of the students wasn’t much better. One of the speakers struck a pose after his speech that was reminiscent of a Black Power or Nazi salute. Another wore the Cuban flag on her sleeve as she delivered her speech. But what was missing was viewpoints from their fellow students that supported firearm ownership, and Black student representatives from Parkland (approximately 25% of the population). Obviously, opposing views or straying from a narrative wasn’t allowed, nor were facts such as:
Fact: The FBI states that in 2016, 374 murders were committed by rifles. However, 1,604 murders were committed using “knives or cutting weapons.” Additionally, 656 murders were committed with hands, fists, or feet.
Fact: Almost all mass-murders in the past 20 years have been committed in a designated “gun-free zone.”
Fact: The NRA does not have blood on it’s hands as they haven’t killed anyone. It nor any of its members has ever been implicated or participated in a mass-murder, nor advocate that criminals or psychopaths should have guns. They are, however, a pain the butt to those who want to deprive any law-abiding American of their civil right to own a weapon.
Fact: People with concealed carry permits commit crimes at a far less rate than police officers.
Fact: No gun-control law that has been proposed or enacted has had any demonstrable positive effect upon crime or the murder rate (think of the gun-free city of Chicago for this one) for the simple fact that criminals do not obey laws.
Fact: After Great Britain essentially banned firearms, home invasions, assaults, robberies, and assaults with knives increased. The problem with knives is so bad that Great Britain is now having “Knife buybacks” in an attempt to reduce “knife violence”. (by the way, knives are a horrible self-defense option – you are at a disadvantage going up against anyone who is bigger, stronger, and more skilled than you would be).
And we can go on and on with one uncomfortable fact after another which destroy each and every argument for gun control.
I like Mike Huckabee’s statement on the protests:
“I salute these students for their passion and their energy, and for their interest in helping to shape public policy. But I would say this to them: Emotion is a terrible substitute for truth.”
Last, I received the following this morning from one of my friends, Mike. It bears reading:
“The more people who are armed, the more dangerous it becomes to be a criminal or a tyrant. If every adult who is capable of bearing arms did so routinely it would be so dangerous that only the bravest and the most disturbed individuals would engage in petty crime and tyranny could find no place to take root. The prohibition of arms is the authorization to even the most cowardly of individuals to engage in intimidation, creates fertile ground for criminal gangs, and cows the honest and honorable into increasingly timid subjects who persistently beg for strongmen to protect them and their families. Which is the siren song that leads to tyranny as no man may be fully trusted with the power to rule others without being corrupted by the temptations, fatigue and impossible responsibility of protecting large numbers of timid and increasingly irresponsible individuals, even if his motivation was pure. Those who deny the right to keep and bear arms to others enslave them to their own will and use their superior might to enforce that will on those who wish otherwise. There is no more clear boundary between a free man and a slave than whether or not they are free to keep and bear arms without the approval, consent or permission of another. Those who deprive others of the Inalienable Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms are engaged in the taking of slaves! The right to keep and bear arms is the seed of Liberty, its absence is the seed of tyranny. You reap what you sow, choose your crop wisely. The rights of the Individual are not subject to the approval, authorization, consent or sanction of others as they are an innate and inseparable aspect of the human being and can only be respected or violated. A free society is based on the mutual respect for the Inalienable rights, person and property of others. The more consistently we do so, the better we will be and the better our world will become and the more freedom will reign. The converse is also true, and the less we respect the Inalienable rights of every Individual human being, the worse we are, the more tyrannical society becomes, the more completely everyone is a prisoner of ever more dire circumstance. Liberty bears sweet fruit which multiplies exponentially the fruits of labor, the joy of life and the wonder of invention where everyone is constantly differentiated by their talents, skills, ethic and character, so long as there is freedom. Whereas tyranny starves, dwindles and brutalizes in an orgy of cannibalistic violence and oppression yielding inexorably towards genocide and a rigid society of moral cowards terrified to differentiate themselves lest they be singled out and devoured by the undifferentiated hungering beasts which surround them, beasts who could have been men if only they were free.
“Heed this warning, for there may be no more, given the advance of censorship and the penultimate power of the state over the Individual. It is a personal choice which You must make, whether freedom shall reign or perish from the earth.
“Please pass this message on to others, make copy and spread it in physical and virtual copy far and wide. There are too many who do not know the difference between liberty and slavery. If we are to abolish slavery in all its forms we must insure that it is easily recognized by those who might otherwise, in ignorance, act to enslave themselves and others. We must succeed in this if we are to abolish tyranny, and be truly free. Take Your part of the responsibility for Your own freedom and see that the enemies of Liberty do not have the ignorant to fill the ranks of their legions. Time is forever running out!
“And furthermore the progressive establishment is a threat to human liberty and therefore it must be abolished!”
That is why this weekend’s protests should be renamed a “March for Madness.”
The aftermath of the Parkland shooting has been predictable if not disconcerting. “News” networks put on town-halls and groups to “discuss” what needs to be done to prevent or stop such occurrences. The mantra is that guns are bad, the NRA is at fault, and law enforcement will protect everyone.
And it’s all show and bullshit.
If anyone cared to investigate what the NRA stood for is this: The NRA promotes the safe ownership and legal use of firearms. The NRA is the oldest civil-rights non-profit organization funded by it’s 5 million + members, and stands for the rights of the American citizen involving the Second Amendment. Not one of the several mass-murderers that have been involved in the horrific shootings has been linked to the NRA, but the NRA is blamed for them (even though the Sutherland Church killer’s rampage was stopped by an NRA member with the same type of rifle the killer used).
And by the way, the NRA did support the gun-control acts of 1934, 1938, and 1968 – of which regulations of machine guns, suppressors, sawed-off shotguns, the creation of Federal Firearm Licensing (FFL) for dealers, and the creation of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Doesn’t sound like the rabid, gun-toting freaks that the MSM paints them out to be.
The knee-jerk reaction to any of these mass-murders is to ban the instrument, the implement, the tool that the murderer used – the gun. That’s self-deception – the person that is ultimately responsible is the person that makes the conscious decision to commit murder. Maybe that’s too much for some of the Leftists to contemplate.
Perhaps the gun-control/banners have faith that if all the firearms in the US were to magically disappear that all murder and crime would disappear too. That too is self-deception – criminals do not need a gun to commit a crime. Knives, hammers, fists, and brute strength will be used with more frequency since the victim no longer has an effective deterrent to an assault or crime. In fact, multiple instances have shown that criminals are emboldened to commit violent crimes as they are no longer afraid of being shot.
Then there’s the argument that government (through passing laws) and law enforcement (to enforce the laws) will protect everyone from anything like this from happening again.
That, folks, is the biggest deception and self-delusion of all.
Laws do not prevent evil from committing mass murder or any other crime for that matter. Laws only state what is wrong and the penalties for committing the act.
As noted in this blog before, law enforcement has no legal obligation to protect you, the citizen. This has been upheld in courts of law multiple times. Additionally, it has been revealed in the past week that at least three Sheriff Deputies were outside the school while the Parkland shooter continued his slaughter inside. They were in a position to enter the school and confront the shooter and save lives, but they did not.
Additionally, law enforcement had multiple encounters with the shooter, and tips from other people that stated that this person was unstable and had made threats against the school. None of this was followed up on, and now I feel that 17 people are now dead because of the ineptitude of law enforcement, and by extension, the government.
Almost 20 years ago, the Columbine shootings occurred. Since that time, many things have been proposed and implemented: zero tolerance policies, gun-free zones, anti-bullying campaigns, and other school security measures. And since that time, the shootings have continued at not only schools, but other public places.
I can go into a lot of the reasons, many of which could be recycled from previous posts, as to why these people go off the deep end and start racking up a very real body count. Mental illness, drugs (prescription and otherwise), and terrorist jihad.
But I have a darker thought as to why these events continue to occur, and it ventures into tin-foil hat territory. I don’t want to think this, but the pieces are beginning to fit together, especially since the Parkland shooting.
There is a concerted effort by the Media, the Politicians (mostly Liberal-Progressive Democrats, although there are a few RINOs), and the usual Liberal groups to remove firearms from the hands of American citizens. These are enabled by various anti-gun groups, the super-rich people like Soros and Bloomberg, and our supposedly neutral institutions of higher learning and government. They scream and holler that “something needs to be done,” and yet they know (and sometimes admit) that any laws they pass or guns that are banned, the event would not have been prevented. But their goal is to ban firearms, no matter what the cost may be.
And that’s exactly what I’m afraid of – the cost.
All of the “solutions” that have been proposed do nothing to protect the schools or the children from some maniac with a gun or a bomb. Yes, there have been improvements in preventing a person from coming into a school, but nothing that would stop a gunman from continuing his rampage once he breaches those barriers. Sheltering in place and praying that a maniac doesn’t come into your room to kill you is not an active solution, but a passive one. It has been shown that an active solution (i.e., engaging and killing the shooter) is the only way to stop the body-count from rising. But there is resistance to this.
Additionally, the names of the mass-murderers have been plastered all over the news, giving them a spot in history. This is encouraging the future mass-murderers to commit crimes against their fellow person. I believe this is a factor in the number of school shootings we have seen.
And then there is the fallacy that a law and a sign that states certain areas are gun-free zones will magically make those areas free from a gun-toting maniac with murderous intentions.
All of this is making me think there are people or organizations that are intentionally orchestrating the non-hardening of the schools to fuel the gun-control agenda with the end-game being the removal of the American citizen’s right to own and use arms. Let a maniac run up a sufficient body count, continuously manipulate public opinion, and soon there will be gun bans and confiscations like Europe and Australia.
I told you that this was dark, tin-foil hat territory. Just tell me where I’m wrong.
We at Wise Conservatism and Tom’s Place wish to offer our sympathies and prayers to the victims and their families of the Parkland murderer.
The bodies weren’t even cold when the usual suspects began calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment, banning assault rifles, banning all guns, create & pass more gun control legislation, etc. in the effort to “do something” to prevent another tragedy of a school shooting. What is most disturbing is that all these efforts would not have prevented another tragedy, but would attempt to disarm or hinder law-abiding citizens from owning weapons.
More laws will not prevent tragedies from happening. This country has an excess of 300 million firearms, and some (a tiny amount) are unfortunately are in the hands of psychos and criminals. It makes absolutely no sense to pass laws that will affect the law abiding and not the criminals. Indeed, it’s already against the law to murder or rob someone, another law isn’t going to affect them one damn bit.
Restricting the right of a law-abiding citizen from owning a weapon that could one day save that person’s life (or those around them) is the opposite of what the gun-grabbers say they want to do. If it saves one life, they say, then we should ban guns. Then what about the 120 lb woman defending herself against a 250 lb rapist that has murderous intent? Doesn’t she have the right to defend herself with something a bit more lethal than a rape-whistle and a phone? Taking away guns from the law-abiding doesn’t save lives – it creates easy victims.
According to gunfacts.info (which has documented facts, figures, and statistics), firearms prevent 400,000 life-threatening violent crimes, and an estimated 2.5 million crimes each year. That is a staggering amount given that roughly 30,000 firearm related deaths (of which 2/3 are suicides) are recorded each year. The numbers are not in the favor of removing firearms from the citizens of this country.
Quite frankly, there isn’t a compelling argument that any law, regulation, or policy would prevent another mass murder involving a gun. Criminals, terrorists, or the mentally disturbed would find another way to commit chaos and destruction. For instance:
The massacre at Bath, Michigan in 1927 was committed by a disturbed person that claimed 44 lives using a bomb. And let’s not forget the Oklahoma Bombing in 1995 where 168 people were killed by a domestic terrorist using a bomb in a truck.
And if that wasn’t enough – Most, if not all, schools are so called “gun free zones” where even the resource officer (sometimes a police officer) is banned from carrying a weapon. Exactly how does a sign prevent someone from bringing a weapon or bomb onto school grounds and killing people? In every school shooting, it does not. Personally, the person(s) who thought that a sign with a law would keep school shootings from happening did not have an ounce of common sense, and as far as I’m concerned, has the blood of each and every victim on their hands.
In the instances of where there was an armed person (or a person that had access to a weapon) in a place of work or school, the body count was much, much less. Take the following instances:
- In the Sutherland Church shooting, the killer’s rampage was cut short by another person with a rifle.
- At the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, an armed volunteer security worker shot and killed an armed maniac who opened fire on parishioners.
- After killing two people at the Clackamas Shopping Center, a man with a semi-automatic rifle was scared off from committing more murders after a concealed carry permit holder drew his weapon and pointed it at him. The killer retreated to a stairwell and killed himself.
There are more – a fast Internet search will come up with hundreds of instances of where a private citizen stopped a mass-murder and/or defended themselves with a weapon (most of the time, a handgun).
Regardless, government, laws, regulations, policies are useless in combating this type of crime, especially if not followed through. We have been told that if we see something amiss that we are to report it. Sure didn’t work here –
It has been revealed that the Parkland shooter was a disturbed individual. Police had been to his home multiple times, and it was known (at least to the adoptive parents) that he had a weapon. His social media posts revealed that he had weapons and made more than one threatening comment that he was going to become a “professional mass shooter.” This was reported to the FBI, and they did not investigate even though it was their policy to look into such threats.
So how exactly is government going to solve or prevent gun crime, or any other kind of crime or assault?
Every single law that has been passed does not prevent crime – laws only state what penalties are imposed for the crime committed.
With that in mind, here’s what I think we, as a community, should do to keep our children and ourselves safe while they are at school and away from us.
One: Arm the teachers. Despite the screaming of the naysayers (ex. “What if a teacher goes off the deep end and starts shooting kids?”), several school systems have this in place with no incidents. If memory serves me correctly, there are between 14 to 17 school systems that have trained and vetted teachers to conceal carry in the schools to protect the children. We protect banks, politicians, and celebrities with guns, why not the kids?
Two: Provide security for those schools who are unwilling or unable to train teachers to provide active security (or in addition to). I’m sure that the Liberals who scream and holler that “we must protect the children” would agree to use the funds that went to Planned Parenthood (which kills thousands of unborn children each year). I’m also sure that there are a variety of Veterans who would do this at little or no charge to the school systems
Three: Arm the students. On several college campuses, students that have concealed carry permits are allowed to carry on campus. Again, the naysayers scream that kids and guns won’t mix on campus, especially with alcohol around, but again, I have heard no issues with this policy. With the supposed reported up-tick in campus rapes (but who believes the MSM anymore…), young women protecting themselves should result in a lower incident rate of these reports.
Four: Remove all gun-free zones (or target-rich environments), but reserve the right of property holders to ban guns from their places of business providing that they will provide active security for their customers and employees.
Five: Provide gun safety classes in the schools. The Eddie Eagle program from the NRA is an excellent program for younger children. Other classes are available for older children. This should reduce the already low instances of tragedies with youngsters and weapons.
We, as a society, has changed in the past five decades.
The respect for life has declined as evidenced by the entertainment we watch and the music we listen to. Movies glorify meaningless violence, and the rap culture celebrates cop-killing, gang membership, drugs, and rape. Additionally, abortion has reduced the miracle of life to an inconvenient clump of cells that has as much value as cancer.
Mental health is still an issue, and is a bigger issue no matter what anyone says. The asylums were emptied, and they are among us. Some are to be pitied, while other are to be feared. All are dangers to themselves, and as evidenced by the last several mass murders, are dangers to us as well.
The Parkland murderer had all the signs of a mentally disturbed person with homicidal tendencies. He was reported, nothing was done, and now 17 people are dead & their families are in mourning.
The weapon used is not at fault, but the murderer is responsible for his own actions. The weapon is a tool, and cannot think for itself.
Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. Psychos are out there. Criminals are out there. People that just don’t give a damn are out there, and just want to see the world burn at their hands.
We as individuals must take responsibility for our own safety, and the safety of our loved ones. We cannot push this responsibility off to government because government is just as flawed as we are.
We are responsible for ourselves.
Be well and be safe, my friends.
Last night, the Senate failed to pass a temporary spending bill that would keep the Federal government running. Here’s the immediate aftermath of that action:
The sun still came up.
No one has immediately keeled over & died as a result.
The lights are still on.
The Earth has not fallen into the sun.
In other words, dispite the dire predictions of Schumer, Pelosi, & other members of the WAH!* Party, the world and universe have not come to an end.
Dispite the lack of funding for “non-essential services,” I fully expect that the impact upon the average American to be minimal under the Trump Administration. This would stand in full contrast of the previous Obummer Administration, whose goal was to make it as painful as possible for the citizens so as to blame the Republicans for the inconvenience.
So what’s the issue? Here’s a good synopsis:
““Hostage-taking” is the term that was used in 2013 when Ted Cruz and a few other Republicans blocked government funding to try to force repeal of ObamaCare. You can’t deny people essential government services just because you didn’t get your way on some other policy! Now here we are, five years later, and Democrats are prepared to deny those same services because they haven’t gotten their way on a DREAM amnesty with essentially no strings attached.” Allapundit @ Townhall.com
So this all comes down to what to do with the children of illegal immigrants who are here illegally, who are not citizens, and who are facing deportation in accordance to the laws of this country.
A question for the WAH! Party – Is this issue something that you want to hang your futures on?
The WAH! Party is in bad shape. They are heavily in debt as a result of the Obummer and Hildebeast campaigns. The apparent acrimony in the election of their co-chairs is still evident in their lack of fundraising. The treatment of Bernie is still rubbing a good portion of the Party members the wrong way. And the message that the co-chairs are sending out is appeals only to the leaches that depend upon the WAH! Party for sustenance – flyover country is not impressed. Last is that after the defeat of the Hildebeast, no one in the party is really positioned to make a run for the Presidency – they all have baggage that would send them to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
Their solution is to push for the amnesty and full citizenship of the Dreamers. These children and young adults have come from countries where the government rules over the citizens, and the educational systems in this country has leaned toward Socialism for years. Should the Dreamers be granted citizenship with the resulting chain migration continue unabated, the WAH! Party would have a voter base of roughly 900,000+ to build upon. This is their long-term goal – a power play to get a their majority back and lock up the elections for decades to come.
This is the issue that the WAH! Party wants to shut the government down for – getting consessions for people who are essentailly criminals, putting their party ahead of the citizens of this country. Considering who they backed for the last election, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised.
If anyone is paying attention, the WAH! Party does not have the American People rights and priveledges as part of their focus. It’s keeping themselves in power, and damned be the consequences to the United States.
Breitbart has this to say about the DREAM Act:
…working and middle-class Americans would be put in further competition for U.S. jobs against up to 3.5 million newly legalized foreign nationals. A recent report found that 1 in 5 illegal aliens given amnesty under the DREAM Act would end up on food stamps and nearly 1 in 7 would end up on Medicaid, further straining the social safety net for America’s poor.
And in the same article, here’s a partial quote (which I’ve seen from other sources) from Senator Dick Durban (D-IL):
“I’m focused on one thing — not that meeting — but on making sure that those who are being protected by DACA and eligible for the DREAM Act have a future in America. I am focused on that full time.”
* WAH! Party – Whiners and Hypocrites Party, formerly known as the Democratic Party.
