Memorial Day Weekend

As we head into the holiday weekend, we need to remember the following:

It’s not about the parades.

It’s not about the sales at our favorite stores.

It’s not about the food and cookouts.

It’s not about the race.

It’s about remembering the men and women in uniform – past, present, and future – who have given their lives in service to this country.

It doesn’t matter if you personally agreed with the reasons they were sent to fight.  It matters that they were there, and died in service to their country.

God Bless the Men and Women of the Armed Services, and the Country they serve.

Reality Check

The IRS targeting conservative groups.  Benghazi.  ObamaCare. Gun Control.  Solyndra.  Sequestration targeting cuts causing as much pain as possible to the population.  Fast and Furious.  GSA Las Vegas spending boondoggle.  Justice Department wiretapping AP.  Congress not reading the bills they are voting on with all the amendments.  The drive toward unsustainable renewable energy.  Lies and broken promises.  A stimulus for shovel-ready jobs that weren’t there.  Class and race warfare.  And more.

What do the above have in common?

The answer is a government gone wild on power.

And who’s to blame?

We are.  We elected these clowns, continue to re-elect them, and collectively  refuse to open our eyes to the realities that an out of control government will eventually drown each one of us in debt and ruin as it attempts to feed itself.  And government is doing a damn fine job in doing just that, especially with the current Administration.

I’ve always known that the politicians are in it for themselves.  What has been different over the past five years is that the Obama Administration has shown such audacity and arrogance in saying one thing then shafting the public by doing the exact opposite of what they said.  What is worse is that the public’s reliance upon the media to ferret out such betrayals has been compromised by that same media’s support of this administration for only God knows what.  With the recent exposure to the government’s warrantless wiretapping of AP for what appears to be political reasons might change this support, but it’s probably too late.

The damage that this Administration has done to the economy of the United States is incalculable.  The divisiveness between the political parties and even between the citizenry is destructive to all progress to move forward.  The chaos that results is ripe for a government to gain more and more control over the population because of the uncertainty of the population has been conditioned by that same media to look toward government to take care of them.

My friends, that desire for “Uncle Sam” to come forward and take care of us is an experiment that has gone wrong, and was doomed to failure from the beginning.

The strength of the United States has always been with the People, not of the government.  The People are to be strong, independent, self-reliant, and by the self determination of the individual, prosperous and responsible.  It is by these traits the person, the individual, will gain the self-esteem and pride that the person desires.

This is the exact opposite of the Liberals, who state through their policies that the individual gains all of this by government mandate.  I realize that this is an oversimplification, but where is this a wrong statement?  Where do the Liberals in government not state that one must give in to the will of the people through the Gordian’s Knot of laws, regulations, and edicts that must make the outcomes of everyone’s labor fair and equal?  Indeed, there is a mandate for equal outcomes, and not one for equal opportunity.  Thus, the population is being brainwashed accordingly.

From the article “A Nation of Cowards” by Jeffery R. Snyder:

The liberal elite know that they are philosopher-kings. They know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable — and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way.

Look at the list of events and scandals at the beginning of this post.  And I mean really, really look and think – Where is there no manipulation of these events by the Administration or government that does not benefit those same entities?  I personally find the concept frightening.

But perhaps what I find of more concern is the chipping away of the foundation of this Country – The Constitution with the Bill of Rights.

Again, from  “A Nation of Cowards” by Jeffery R. Snyder:

In United States v. Cruikshank (1876), the first case in which the Court had an opportunity to interpret the Second Amendment, it stated that the right confirmed by the Second Amendment “is not a right granted by the constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence.” The repeal of the Second Amendment would no more render the outlawing of firearms legitimate than the repeal of the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment would authorize the government to imprison and kill people at will. A government that abrogates any of the Bill of Rights, with or without majoritarian approval, forever acts illegitimately, becomes tyrannical, and loses the moral right to govern.

Read the above again.  And again. And again.  Think about what our government is doing now to various citizens of opposing political views.  Think of the repeated statements that the Constitution is an outdated document and must be “fixed” by the same political elite that swore oaths to uphold and protect the very same document that is the founding principle of this country.  Think of the Administration mandating to law enforcement what laws to enforce and not enforce.  Are you scared now?

From the article “By the Consent of the Governed”, The American Rifleman, July, 1961:

The disappearance of the sturdy, independent minded, freedom loving individual and his replacement by a servile, mass mentality is one of the GREATEST HUMAN MENACES OF OUR TIME. Freedom is not a thing that can be imposed from without. It can only be created from within. It’s very essence is that of self creation. Nations do not, cannot make free men – men make free nations. Freedom of the individual is the foundation stone of American Liberty. The basic “Rights” guaranteed to the people in the Constitution of the United States, all of them, not just the ones that happen to not effect certain individuals, are a priceless heritage. When any “one of our Rights” are encroached upon, “every one of our Rights” are weakened and we should all be shocked and outraged to action.

I came across this quote by chance:

“I am freeing men from the burden of freedom which only a few can bear.” – Adolf Hitler

I believe we are at a critical time in our country.  We are beginning to see the overt arrogance of the political elite running our country, and it is time that we, the American Citizen, make our voices heard to our elected representatives and/or elect their replacements in each and every election cycle.  It is our responsibility to hold our elected officials for their actions, and to not rely upon government to take responsibility for us.  There is no other choice if we expect this country to continue.

Mother’s Day

Today is the first Mother’s Day without my Mom.  To say it feels strange is somewhat of an understatement.

My Mom and I didn’t see eye to eye most of the time (I’m 5’10”, she was 4’6”), but we still loved each other no matter what our differences on various issues were.

For those of you whose Mothers are still alive, treasure them and tell them you love them.

For those whose Mothers are not with us, take a few moments and think of the wonderful times that you had together.

Doing either of the above honors your Mother, and shows the love and respect that they deserve.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Just Reality–An Opinion

Well, back to reality…  Just a few things that are on my mind.

During the manhunt for the Boston bombers, was anyone else uncomfortable with the following?

  • Police sporting full body armor, fully-automatic weapons, riding around on armored personnel carriers?
  • The pseudo “martial law” which suggested / ordered that everyone stay indoors for their own safety?  (I wonder – From the police or from the criminals?)
  • Videos of police breaking down doors and herding the occupants of the houses with their hands over their heads? (definitely without warrants or probable cause?)
  • Police not finding their suspect until the “martial law” was lifted, and a home owner noticed something amiss with his boat?
  • The state of Massachusetts has some of the more restrictive gun laws in the nation, and yet the bombers had no problems obtaining weapons.

Anyone?

The Boston bomber’s family were in this country under a political refugee status.  It is slowly being revealed that the relatives appear to be less than honest people, with shoplifting and fraud being part of their repertoire.  It also looks like they were not political refugees, but just to come to this country to rip the taxpayers off of anything they could get.  I understand that they all were on Welfare for over ten years, and did not hold any jobs to support themselves.

The bombers themselves had grants to go to school, again on the taxpayer’s back.  I’ve seen pictures of them with nice cars & cell phones, all paid for with various assistance programs.  And their friends are no better – they were here under expired student visas because they failed to attend class.

If the above doesn’t scream for reform of both immigration and welfare / assistance programs, nothing else would.

My personal solutions to the above would include:

  • Cancellation of all new student visas.  There are enough students from foreign countries that we have no idea where they are.  Find the slackers and deport them immediately.
  • Return to the policy that a potential immigrant must have an American citizen vouch for them, and can prove that they will be a productive member of society.  We have way too many people gaming the system and getting everything for nothing.
  • Fully investigate all claims for immigration under a political refugee, and deport those who do not pass muster (especially those who are under long-term public assistance, cannot support themselves, and/or have criminal records).

I personally am tired of people committing fraud to enter this country and picking my pocket.

While I’m at it, I’m becoming more opposed to the “Gang of Eight” immigration reform proposals.  I’m sorry to break it to the politically correct, but illegal means illegal, not undocumented.  People broke our laws by crossing our border without the proper authorization, and should be deported.  If I entered any other country illegally, I would be imprisoned, deported, or executed (depending on the country).  To make the illegal legal is nothing more than a political power play, and will weaken this country.

After all, is this a nation of laws, or of feelings?  If we’re the first, then we are strong and can grow & prosper.  If we’re the second, then we deserve absolute chaos and destruction.

I haven’t been following the Gosnell trial too closely – the descriptions of aborted babies is so horrifying that I just cannot stomach it.

I am opposed to abortion on the fact that a person is terminating another person’s life.  I really do not care that there are legal definitions of what a baby, fetus, or cluster of cells represents and what a mother or doctor can legally do during what term of a pregnancy.  This is a developing human life.  The only reason that a pregnancy should be terminated is if the mother is in imminent danger of death, and that survival is not possible.

As a follow up to the above, I find it hypocritical that many of the same people that advocate the right of a woman to abort her baby also state that children are precious.  For example:

President Obama praises Planned Parenthood (one of the nations leading abortion providers) for their role in women’s health (which includes abortion), and yet making multiple statements that we must restrict or ban guns because we need to save the children.

Let’s talk numbers – First up is the number of abortions in the United States:

According to the CDC, 784,507 abortions were performed in 2009.  Other years were higher: 825,564 in 2008, 827,609 in 2007, and 846,181 in 2006.

How does this compare with the total number of murders by firearms for the same years?  From the FBI:  2009 – 9,804, 2008 – 10,195, 2007 – 10,811, and for 2006 -10,225.  Note that the majority of murders (if I’m reading the statistics correctly) are adults (late teens to full adults).

Does this sound like he’s really interested in saving the children?  Not to me…

Retirement(?)

Sometimes, one just needs to sit back & take a break from the insanity that the world constantly barrages us with.

The following showed up on my private Facebook account, and I just had to share.  I can see doing some of this after I retire….but not all…

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Walmart. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women – she loves to browse.

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Walmart

Dear Mrs. Woolf,

Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Woolf, are listed below and are “documented by our video surveillance cameras”:

1. June 15: He took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people’s carts when they weren’t looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women’s restroom.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, ‘Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away’. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted in management getting involved causing management to lose time and costing the company money.

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to reserve a bag of chips.

6. August 14: Moved a ‘CAUTION – WET FLOOR’ sign to a carpeted area.

7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers they could come in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department – to which twenty children obliged.

8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, ‘Why can’t you people just leave me alone?’  Emergency Medics were called.

9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

10. September 10: While handling guns in the Sports department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

11. October 3: Darted around the Store suspiciously while loudly humming the ‘ Mission Impossible’ theme.

12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his ‘Madonna look’ by using different sizes of funnels.

13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled ‘PICK ME! PICK ME!’

14. October 22: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed the fetal position and screamed ‘OH NO! IT’S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!

15. Took a box of condoms to the checkout clerk and asked where the fitting room was.

And last, but not least:

16. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, and then yelled very loudly, ‘Hey! There’s no toilet paper in here.’  One of the Staff passed out.
