Terminating Tuesday

Well, the day finally arrived. Management finally announced this afternoon that I would be let go a week from this Friday…

Friday the 13th…. Perfect….

I have mixed feelings about leaving as I’ve stated before in previous posts about my adventures & thought process of trying to figure out what to do (here, here, here, here, and here).  What was interesting is that several people came up to me after the announcement and congratulated me on the decision.

Oh well…

The job search will be kicking into high gear, and I have a seminar to go to on March 19 to help update the skillset.  I will be contacting some people who have expressed a desire to talk to me although they don’t have anything for me yet.

The opportunities are out there – it’s just a matter of finding the right one.

Tom, I hope that you find something very soon. Only you know what is right for you and only you can make that decision. I wish you the best and know that something will come along that is just right for you right now. God never closes a door without opening a window!!

I wish for the best in your search, my friend. This is supposed to be a tough time to find a job, but for those who keep at it, there is high hope.

Old Ben Franklin told us, “Energy and perseverance conquer all things.” President Coolidge rated it above talent, education, and genius. As sorry as I am that you must endure this uncertain time, I sense that you have the drive and support of a loving family to meet this new challenge head-on. You will be marching forward in a new direction, my friend . . . I will be praying for you as you begin a new chapter in your life.

Tough break, Tom. You’re luckier than most in that you knew it was coming. We’ve had downsizings lately and folks were quickly handed a check at their desks and escorted from the building. I may be out the door soon myself.

Good luck and see ya ’round the blogosphere.

Thank you everyone for your kind and encouraging thoughts! Things aren’t as totally bleak as one may think.

I met today with a person that has his own business in web and WordPress/content management development, and he gave me some tips. It’s also a possibility that he might use me if he gets overwhelmed. He has the address of a website that I created for my son’s favorite game, and he’s going to look at it & offer some feedback.

I’ve also been in touch with a couple of people that have contacts throughout the state of Michigan, and they want to have my resume to pass around. They’re good friends that I’ve known since I’ve been in Michigan.

That is great! It sounds like you have a good handle on things!!

  8. Tom says:

Jennifer – It’s the short-term plan with long-term possibilities. Nothing is going to happen overnight, but I’ve got to have some faith that things will work out for the best.

  9. Nice little place you have here, good reading…thanks I’ll be back again soon

  10. Tom, thanks for the visit and the kind comment

  11. Z says:

OH, TOM! I’m sorry to hear it finally did happen. But, it sounds like you have an amazing attitude about it all and that makes ME feel better about your prospects, too!
ALL the best…I’ll be throwing a prayer or two your way!

  12. Tom says:

Throwing Stones – Thanks for the visit and complement. Have visited your blog & added you to the blogroll. Come back soon!

Z – Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. They are going to be needed in the weeks ahead because I know that this will be a difficult road to travel. The attitude will need periodic adjustment.

  13. Obama was elected by naive college students, emotional soccer moms, stupid union workers, the leftist media, and the blacks seeking revenge for slavery. The stock market could be down to 2,000 and his poll numbers would still be high. If we had another election next month, he’d still win.
